I don't really feel like writing much, so let's just suffice it to say that I'm ashamed at the way some Christians are responding to our next president. Now I obviously haven't been bashful about saying who I supported, so I'm not even remotely disappointed in how the election turned out. That being said, here's some verses that may help some folks who are having a hard time with it.
For there is no authority except from God, and those which exist are established by God. Romans 13:1
It is He who changes the times and the epochs; He removes kings and establishes kings; He gives wisdom to wise men and knowledge to men of understanding. Daniel 2:21
“This sentence is by the decree of the angelic watchers And the decision is a command of the holy ones, in order that the living may know that the Most High is ruler over the realm of mankind, and bestows it on whom He wishes and sets over it the lowliest of men.” Daniel 4:17
It is better to take refuge in the Lord than to trust in princes. Psalm 118:9
Do not trust in princes, in mortal man, in whom there is no salvation. Psalm 146:3
The king’s heart is like channels of water in the hand of the Lord; He turns it wherever He wishes. Proverbs 21:1
First of all, then, I urge that entreaties and prayers, petitions and thanksgivings, be made on behalf of all men, for kings and all who are in authority, so that we may lead a tranquil and quiet life in all godliness and dignity. 1 Timothy 2:1-2
Therefore whoever resists authority has opposed the ordinance of God; and they who have opposed will receive condemnation upon themselves. Romans 13:2
Three things that all Christians should be doing right now. We should all trust that God is in control. I was talking to my mother yesterday (a staunch Republican), who said that God gave us Obama to lead this nation. We may not know why He did it, but God knows, and we need to trust him. Second, we all need to pray. I encourage everyone to check out the Presidential Prayer team here. Third, submit. Whether you agree with his decisions or not, submit to his policies, knowing that God's will is being done. Remember that nothing is done outside the will of God, including the Presidency.
Time for a bit of honesty. I know it's really easy to sit on this side of it and tell you guys how you need to act. And I'll tell you, part of the reason I am so bothered by the response of many Christians to Obama is that I have had a similar response to many of President Bush's actions over the last eight years. I'm hoping you guys can do better than I did.
